Centrifugal Casting

Centrifugal Casting, also known as rotational casting, is a process that utilizes centrifugal force to industrially manufacture cylindrical components. This type of metal casting employs a preheated, rotating mold into which molten metal is poured. The centrifugal force helps distribute the molten metal within the mold under high pressure. 

There are three variants of centrifugal casting: 

True Centrifugal Casting Process 

Semi-Centrifugal Casting Process 

Vertical Centrifugal Casting Process 

Unlike true centrifugal casting, semi-centrifugal casting uses gates to completely fill the mold. However, in true centrifugal casting, due to continuous rotation, the molten metal adheres to the sides. In contrast, vertical centrifugal casting, as the name suggests, follows the same process as true centrifugal casting but is oriented for vertical molding. 

Typically, centrifugal casting produces rotational shapes such as cylinders. It is particularly suitable for parts like bush bearings, clutch plates, piston rings, and cylinder liners. Moreover, pouring the metal at the center of the mold helps reduce defects such as porosity, shrinkage cavities, and gas pockets. However, it is not applicable to all kinds of metal alloys. 

Performance Advantages: Improves process yield and reduces waste. Produces high-density castings with minimal defects. Facilitates the manufacturing of composite metal castings for cylinder liners without the need for gates and risers.
